Kwando Camp

Kwando Camp is just outside the famous Mudumu National Park in the Zambezi Region (previously called the Caprivi Strip). This luxury camp offers spectacular views over the Kwando River. They offer game drives and game cruises on the Kwando River and in the Mamili and Mudumu National Park.


You will be greeted at the spacious welcoming reception area when arriving at Kwando Camp. While checking in, spend a few moments visiting the curio shop which boasts an interesting range of local arts and crafts.

Rooms

The island features eight thatched tents with two beds each, equipped with mosquito nets and a terrace overlooking the river for fishing. Each tent includes an en-suite bathroom with an open sky shower, and electricity is provided by a generator with paraffin lighting.

Three larger thatched bungalows on elevated ground offer stunning views of the Botswana plains, each with a stylish bedroom, en-suite bathroom, and spacious terrace.


Camping at Bushcamp is a serene option, just 42km from the main camp.

 

Location

Driving on the Trans Caprivi between Rundu and Victoria Falls, you will cross the village of Kongola (four hundred kilometers east of Rundu and one hundred kilometers west of Katima Mulilo), where you are going to turn towards the south.  

Twenty-five kilometers further down, you will find a signpost marked Camp Kwando where you will turn right for another three kilometers.

Activities

The lodge offers a range of exciting activities, including "game drives" through nearby national parks, "boat drive", and "sunset cruise" on the river. You can even visit the local village for a taste of traditional life. During the summer, the lodge’s pool is a favorite spot to cool off.

 

KWANDO CAMP AND LODGES IN NAMIBIA


Kwando Camp in the Caprivi or Zambezi Region is proudly associated with other lodges in Namibia. Our countries favoured and largest National Park, Etosha is within a days drive. It will take you two days to drive from Kwando Camp to Damaraland and Kaokoland where you can stay at Twyfelfontein Country Lodge or Palmwag Lodge. Next to the famous Vingerklip, you will find the Vingerklip Lodge, an upmarket place and the nearest lodge to the magnificent Vingerklip Rock. From Damaralnd you will most likely visit the coast where Swakopmund offer a variety of accommodation such as hotels and self-catering accommodation. Further south is Ai-Ais Resort near the Fish River Canyon. This is the world's second largest canyon after the Grand Canyon. If you are traveling to South Africa you must consider at least one night at the Quivertree Forest Rest Camp at Keetmanshoop. Orange River Lodge is the perfect stop-over if are planning on crossing the border to South Africa.


LODGES OF BOTSWANA

From Kwando Camp it will take you no more than 3 hours to get to the Chobe National Park where you need to stay at least two nights. Stay at Chobe Big 5 Lodge and enjoy game drives in the Chobe National Park and at least one cruise on the Chobe River.


You can decide to go straight from Kwando Camp to the Okavango Delta for a Safari of a lifetime. There are very good lodges in the Okavango Delta, Savute and Moremi. After your visit to the Okavango you can easily drive in a day to Francistown. In Francistown you can overnight at Woodlands Stop Over self-catering accommodation or the Thapama Hotel.


ZIMBABWE HOTELS AND LODGES

A logical next stop after your time at Kwando Camp would be a visit to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. At Victoria Falls there is a wide selection of hotels. We recommends the A'Zambezi River Lodge which is a few kilometers upstream on the banks of the Zambezi or you can stay at Ilala Lodge which is a boutique hotel and the nearest hotel to the Falls. Sprayview Hotel located only 1,4km from the majestic Victoria falls the spray rises like a column of smoke and can be seen from the hotel, hence the name “Sprayview”.
